Rita was born on August 7th, 1932.  Rita's father was George William Harris and her mother is Augusti Johanna Hermine Surendorff.  Her paternal grandfather was John  William Harris and her paternal grandmother is Esther Christie van Niekerk. She had a brother and two sisters, named Friedel (Bobby), Ruth and Anna.  She is the oldest of the four children.
