שם was born in 1558. שם's father was נח and his mother was Nahamah bint Rake'el. His paternal grandparents were למך and Betenos bint Baraki'il; his maternal grandfather was Rake'el ben Mathusala. He was the second of three children. He had two brothers named יפת and חם. He died, at the age of 600, in 2158.
