Joannes was born in 1736 and his baptism took place on August 15th, 1736 in Lummen.  Joannes' father was Walter Postelmans and his mother was Marie Gompers.  His paternal grandparents were Petrus Postelmans and Elisabeth Lambrechts; his maternal grandparents were Arnoldus Gompers and Elisabeth Aerts.  He had four brothers and two sisters, named Arnold, Petrus, Mathias, Henri, Anna Elisabeth and Marie Catherine.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
