Egidius was born in 1756 in Genk and his baptism took place there on January 27th, 1756. Egidius' father was Petrus Paulissen and his mother was Maria Gathofs (Gaethofs).  His maternal grandparents were Egidius Gaethofs and Catharina Indekeu (IN DE KUIJE).  He had four brothers and two sisters, named Jacobus, Henricus, Hubertus, Joannes, Catharina and Christina.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
