Gustaaf, known as Gust, was born on September 5th, 1922 in Bocholt. Gust's father was Cornelius Gaethofs and his mother was Anna Goossens. His paternal grandparents were Henricus Gaethofs and Maria Catherina Paesen. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Henricus, Pieter Joannes, Martinus, Jacobus, Maria Catharina and Cecilia. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died due to UZ at the age of 83 on September 7th, 2005 in Leuven. The funeral took place on September 12th, 2005 in Grote-Brogel.¹
