Petrus Ludovicus was born on January 29th, 1815 in Paal.1   Petrus Ludovicus' father was Henry Ariën and his mother was Anna Maria Gaethofs.  His paternal grandfather was Gerard Ariën and his paternal grandmother is Anna Maria Vanzonhoven; his maternal grandparents were Petrus (Pierre) Gaethofs and Maria Schaenen (Schraenen).  He had a brother and five sisters, named Petrus, Maria Victoria, Maria Carolina, Maria Joseph, Angelica and Maria Scholostia.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
