    SLOCUMS IN AMERICA, by Charles Slocum, page 45 & 41.
        Rev. Ebenezer settled on Canonicut Island Jamestown, RI where he received land from his father as shown by a deed dated 25 Oct. 1678.
        He was chosen Deputy (Representative) for Jamestown to the Rhode Island General Assembly (Legistature) in the year 1679, and held that office - sometimes acting as Speaker of that body - much of the time until his death in 1715.
        He was a very earnest and influential minister in the Society of Friends as is shown by various records. He gave a deed of land for a Friends meeting house in Jamestown the 27 Sept. 1710, he also gave 15 Aug. 1710, a deed of one acre of land, with meeting house thereon, for the same purpose, in South Kingstown, RI, on the present road between Wakefield and Riverdale.

    Ebenezer Slocum, born Portsmouth, RI, March 25, 1650, died Jamestown, RI, April 13, 1715, married Mary Thurston, born 1857, died Nov. 16, 1732, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Mott) Thurston. Ebenezer's father left him land on Jamestown. He was a deputy to the General Assembly in 1679. In 1710, he deeded land for a Friends Meeting House in Jamestown and also deeded land for a meeting house in South Kingstown. He was a minister in the Society of Friends and for 36 years he travelled in New England, Long Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland in this ministry. He is buried in the Friends Cemetery on Jamestown, RI.

    Ebenezer married Mary THURSTON, daughter of Edward THURSTON and Elizabeth MOTT, on 1678 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island. Mary was born Feb 1657 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island. She died 16 Nov 1732 in Jamestown, Newport Co., Rhode Island.
