    IV. John Eddye was born on March 27, 1597 at Cranbrook, Kent, England. He married Amy Doggett and later married Joanna (--?--).
    V. Ellen Eleanor Eddye was born on August 5, 1599 at Cranbrook, Kent, England. She died October 1610 at Cranbrook, Kent, England, at age 11.
    VI. Abigail Eddye was born on October 1601 at Cranbrook, Kent, England. She married John Benjamin.
    VII. Anna Eddye was born on May 15, 1603 at Cranbrook, Kent, England. She married Barnabas Wines.
    VIII. Elizabeth Eddye was born on December 7, 1606 at Cranbrook, Kent, England.

    John EDDY was born before Mar 1596/97 in Cranbrook, Kent, England. He died on 12 Oct 1684 in Watertown, MA. He's #5 in The Eddys in America, 1930. He and Samuel Eddy came over onthe vessel "Handmaid." After 12 weeks at sea, the vessel reachedPlymouth harbor in MA on October 29, 1630.
    
    "In the latter part of the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1600), a desire fora simpler form of religious worship grew and spread among some of theProtestants in England. These dissenters were called Puritans. Theyincreased rapidly in numbers among the best elements of the middle class,especially in the counties of Essex and Suffolk.
    
    "During the reigns of James I and Charles I, the persecution of thesePuritans became so severe that a great migration to the shores of NewEngland began in 1630 and lasted until 1643. Over 25,000 came in those13 years and of these probably 15,000 were from Suffolk and EssexCounties. This great migration started under the leadership of JohnWinthrop of Groton in the spring of 1630. Previous to June of that year,fourteen emigrant ships had said from England. Among the passengers onthese vessels were the new governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, JohnWinthrop, the deputy governor, and many of the assistants, and others whowere to aid in the civil affairs of the new settlement. John Doggett, acousin of Amy Doggett Eddy, was among the number.
    
    "The Winthrops, Doggetts, and Eddys were known to each other in England,for John Winthrop had married for his second wife Thomasine Clopton ofGroton; Thomas Doggett, a cousin of Amy, had married her sister MargeryClopton of Grotton, and John Eddy had married Amy Doggett of Groton.This is doubtless the reason why John and Samuel Eddy within two weeks oflanding at Plymouth left for the Bay Colony. They wished to settle neartheir friends and acquaintances. At this time there was an agreementbetween the two colonies that a man must carry letters of dismissal fromone colony before he could be received as an inhabitant of the other.John and Samuel did not carry thos letters with them and so were obligedto return to Plymouth with John Grant and Capt. Standish. Sometime priorto February 26, 1631/32, John Eddy procured the necessary letter ofdismissal and was received into the Bay Colony..." The Eddy Family inAmerica, pp. 15-16.
