Hallo Cynthia,
Thanks very much for the reply!
I was surprised to see you also research VELDMAN. My one paternal
g-g-grandmother was Hester Helena VELDMAN, b 31/5/1822 Swellendam,
daughter of Johannes Godlieb VELDSMAN, b 2/5/1799 Anysberg, and Susanna
Cathartina Jordaan. She married Frederik Johannes van Deventer. Her
father Johannes Godlieb was the son of Matthys Christoph VELDSMAN b 1766
and Johanna Maria de Kooker, and the latter in turn the son of stamvader
Johann Gottlieb VELDSMAN.
My JONKER ancestery is on my maternal side again.
The 'unclassified' Pieter Christiaan Theunis JONKER who married an
Elizabeth FRITS, is definitely the same person as my g-g-grandfather.
The names were not always spelt the same and in the same order. I know
the Pieter Theunis Barend Christiaan is actually the more correct, since
that was repeated frequently in the family, up till today.
The eldest son Pieter Johannes JONKER, born 29/4/1861 and baptised in
Potchefstroom was the oldest brother of my g-grandfather Jacobus Pieter
Theunis Barend JONKER, born Aug 1879 in Heidelberg.
I know the background of Pieter Theunis Barend Christiaan JONKER (Snr)'s
wife Elizabeth Johanna Cornelia FRITZ quite well. She was the daughter
of John Thomas David FRITZ and Gertruida Petronella Otto.
But unfortunately the parents names of Pieter Theunis Barend Christiaan
JONKER (Snr) himself, born 6/6/1836 somewhere in the Cape, still escapes
me.
If you can find any detail regarding his perentage, I will be forever
grateful!!!
Kind regards,
Martina Louw.

Just to recap, here's the info I have::
PIETER THEUNIS BAREND CHRISTIAAN JONKER,
born 6/6/1836 somewhere in the Cape.
x 9/4/1859 in Potchefstroom "Hervormde Kerk" to Elizabeth Johanna
Cornelia Fritz, (1840 Franschoek-1901 Jhb), daughter of John Thomas
David Fritz .
According to her death notice (Tvl 2349 of 1901), their children were:
1. Pieter Johannes
2. Petronella Gertruida [Austin]
3. Susanna Jacoba Alberta [Taljaard]
4. Johan Thomas (Theunis?) Pieter
5. Alexander Josias
6. Hendrik Johannes
7. Elizabetha Johanna Christina [v Nispen]
8. Jacobus Thomas (Theunis?) Pieter [alias Jacobus Pieter Theunis
Barend]
9. Jacoba Alberta [le Roux]
I suspect the names are not given very accurately, because the second
last one (no 8 above), my ancestor, was actually 'Jacobus Pieter
Theunis Barend'.
xx 1902-1908 in Heidelberg or Potchefstroom, possibly in her church,
"Gereformeerde Kerk", to Maria Dorothea Elizabeth Venter (1855
Zoutpansberg-1936 Edenvale, Tvl), daughter of Jacobus Daniel Venter,
b3c2d1e5f2g1.
PTBC Jonker died on 28/3/1924 on the farm Zandfontein, Rustenburg, TVL
(where he was also buried) - no death notice filed though.
No mention made of his place of birth or parents on his wives' documents
or first marriage certificate. (I did not get to find the xx
certificate)

I feel more and more confident that he is very likely to have been a son
of Pieter (Petrus) Johannes Jonker (b7c8) b 16/10/1796 Tulbach. I am
just not sure if his mother was his first wife Anna Elizabeth Rossouw (x
1/6/1817 Graaf Reinet) or if Pieter Johannes perhaps had more than one
wife.
(My PTBC named his first son Pieter Johannes, which would most likely
have been his father's names, but his second daughter was named Susanna
Jacoba Alberta, which I would have expected to have been his mother's
name. So did Pieter Johannes b7c8 perhaps remarry a Susanna Jacoba
Alberta at a later stage?)
In Heese only Pieter Johannes's first 2 children are mentioned, ie
b7c8d1 Hester Petronella Maria Elizabeth Jonker b 21/4/1818 Uitenhage,
and
b7c8d2 Petrus Johannes Albertus Jonker b 20/9/1819.
I have found a reference in the IGI to a Petrus Johannes Albertus
Francois Jonker, who married Elizabeth Carolina Maria Buitendag on
5/11/1839 in Colesberg. Could be the same person as b7c8d2 above, and
thus a much older brother of my PTBC Jonker?
The use of 4 first names is also a bit unique, which seems to be a
further pointer that I may be on the right track.
There seems to have been about 2 dozen congregations in theCape already
in 1836, so it is impossible for me to know where to start searching for
his baptismal certificate, especially here from New Zealand.
