Hugh was born in 1720 in Clackmannon, Clackmannonshire, Scotland.  Hugh's father was David William McNary and his mother was Mary Esther Warrick.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 65 in 1785 in Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina, United States.
