Charles was born in October 1848 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1   Charles' father is Richard Lythgoe and his mother is Margaret "Mae" Sharkey.  His paternal grandparents are Joesph Lythgoe and Hannah; his maternal grandparents are Hugh Sharkey and Mary May Devlin. He had four brothers and a sister, named John Joseph, Hugh, Thomas, Richard and Hannah.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died  due to Pneumonia at the age of 64 in 1912 in San Francisco, California, USA.
