Family of John Oliver McCARTHY & Betty Louise PARKER

John and Betty were married on February 18th, 1950. They have a son named Colin.

Family Notes
- At about 1942 Betty's mother, Lillian DOWNING, moved from Leyton to Ilford (in an effort to escape the worst of the bombing). She took in lodgers to help pay the rent. One such lodger was her future son-in-law, John Oliver McCarthy who had left Ireland in 1943 and taken a job at Fords, Dagenham. That was how John Oliver McCarthy met Betty Lousie DOWNING - the landlady's daughter. During the war Betty was away from home a lot (she was in the Land Army and based in Ringwood in Hampshire). However the relationship between John Oliver McCARTHY and Betty Louise PARKER got established after the war and they eventually married (18th February 1950).
