Tom was born in 1897 in Bedworth, Warwickshire.1   Tom's father was Harry WHITCROFT and his mother was Hannah HENTON.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas WHITCROFT and Sarah Ann <UNKNOWN>; his maternal grandparents were Joseph HENTON and Sarah <UNKNOWN>. He had two sisters named Sarah and Harriett.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Eliza.
