Henry was born in 1866 in Atherstone, Warwickshire. Henry's father was George SHILTON and his mother was Ann ROSE. His paternal grandparents were Thomas SHILTON and Ann HARRIS. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George, Joseph, Ernest, Arthur, Esther and Ann. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
