Ernest was born in 1926. Ernest's father was Homer William Hollis and his mother was Adelaide Jane Coombs Hillier. His maternal grandparents were William Ephriam Coombe Hillier and Marian Emma Bradshaw. He had seven brothers named Andrew , John, Trevor, Alan , Robert, Jeffery and Thomas. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Bill, Eva, Jean, Hazel, Tas and ?. He died on February 14th, 1926 in Merbein, Victoria.-
