Ellena was born on December 22nd, 1871 in Wentworth, N.S.W.. Ellena's father was John Egge and her mother was Mary Perring. Her maternal grandparents were Peter Perring and Jane Coombe. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Richard, James, Francis, Edwin, Susan , Amelia and Maude. She was the third youngest of the eight children.-
