Martha was born on October 9th, 1827 in Lismoyle. Martha's father was Samuel Bolton and her mother was Martha Boyde. Her paternal grandfather was William Bolton and her paternal grandmother is Nancy Hemphill. She had three brothers and two sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Samuel, William, James, Nancy, Elizabeth and Bolton. She was the second youngest of the seven children.-
