Joane was born in 1305.  Joane's father was Robert de Holland and her mother was Maud De La Zouche.  Her paternal grandparents were Sir Robert de Holland and Elizabeth de Samlesbury. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Otho, John, Alan, Margery, Maud, Elizabeth, Margaret, Jane, Eleanor and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the thirteen children.  She died at the age of 35 in 1340.
