Clara was born in 1886.  Clara's father was Frederick  Bishop and her mother was Clara Price.  Her paternal grandparents were James  Bishop and Jane Goodhew; her maternal grandparents were Henry Price and Rachel Reeve. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Frederick, George, Alfred, Emily, Minnie, Kate and Ellen.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
