Alfred was born in 1899.  Alfred's father was Frederick  Bishop and his mother was Clara Price.  His paternal grandparents were James  Bishop and Jane Goodhew; his maternal grandparents were Henry Price and Rachel Reeve. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Frederick, George, Emily, Clara, Minnie, Kate and Ellen.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
