Tom was born in 1870 in Scarborough.1 Tom's father was William Rote Hewitt and his mother was Elizabeth Cammish (Hewitt). His paternal grandparents were William Hewitt and Mary Headley (Hewitt); his maternal grandparents were William Cammish and Ann Willis. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William , Edward, Elizabeth Hedley and Annie. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
