Betty was born in January 1948.  Betty's father is Frankie James Ward and her mother was Cynthia Estelle Ivey (Ward).  Her maternal grandparents were George Washington Ivey and Jennie Victoria Brady (Ivey). She had two brothers and five sisters, named Billy, Terry, Ruby, Bobbie, Willie, Joyce and Wanda.  She is the second youngest of the eight children.
