John was born in 1865 in Gonzales TX.  John's father was Charles  Armstrong  Reeves and his mother was Alcey Ann Ivey (Reeves).  His maternal grandparents were Jason William Ivey and JoAnna Jamima Miller. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Jason, William, Jane, Susan, Fannie, Ritta, Angie, Ettie and Hettie.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 5 in 1870.
