Ples was born on March 27th, 1897 in Gonzales TX.  Ples' father was George Washington Ivey and his mother was Jennie Victoria Brady (Ivey).  His paternal grandparents were Jason William Ivey and JoAnna Jamima Miller. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Philip, Jason, Alvie, Benjamin, Alford, Molly Lee and Cynthia.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named John, Neomi, Annie, Molly, Lea and Lou.  He died at the age of 71 in 1968.
