Maldy was born in 1883.  Maldy's father was Jacob Ivey Jr and his mother was Rachel Sarah Cudd (Ivey).  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ivey and Caroline Bush (Ivey). He had three brothers and two sisters, named Marian, John, Van, Cynthia and Arney.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Ezra, Elise, Flossie, Jakie, Annie and Abby.  He died at the age of 29 in 1912.
