John  was born on January 11th, 1859 in Gonzales TX.  John 's father was Jason William Ivey and his mother was JoAnna Jamima Miller.  His paternal grandparents were Reuben Ivey and Elizabeth  Hudson (Ivey). He had three brothers and a sister, named James, George, Benjamin and Alcey.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 87 in 1946.
