John was born on January 10th, 1880 in Goliad TX.  John's father was George Washington Ivey and his mother was Nancy Pink Davis (Ivey).  His paternal grandparents were Jason William Ivey and JoAnna Jamima Miller. He had five sisters named Neomi, Annie, Molly, Lea and Lou.  He was the youngest of the six children. He had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Philip, Jason, Ples, Alvie, Benjamin, Alford, Molly Lee and Cynthia.  He died at the age of 86 on February 28th, 1966 in Gonzales Co TX.
