John was born in 1879.  John's father was Henry F Ivey and his mother was Cynthia P Creason.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ivey and Caroline Bush (Ivey). He had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, Leonard, Seaborn, Ell, Charlie, Carvey, Rachel, Lena, Nola and Jane.  He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 86 in 1965.
