Jennie was born in October 1953.  Jennie's father was Philip Wilkerson Ivey and her mother is Leona Mae Steele (Ivey).  Her paternal grandparents were George Washington Ivey and Jennie Victoria Brady (Ivey). She has a sister named Diaan.  She is the younger of the two children. She had seven half-brothers and six half-sisters, named William, Louis, Barney, Phillip, Denver, J, Billy, Ruby, Ethel, Elvis, Ada, Mattie and Christine.
