James was born in 1850 in Carroll Co MS.  James' father was Jason William Ivey and his mother was JoAnna Jamima Miller.  His paternal grandparents were Reuben Ivey and Elizabeth  Hudson (Ivey). He had three brothers and a sister, named George, Benjamin, John  and Alcey.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 10 in 1860 in Carroll Co MS.
