Carvey was born in 1897.  Carvey's father was Henry F Ivey and his mother was Cynthia P Creason.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ivey and Caroline Bush (Ivey). He had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, John, Leonard, Seaborn, Ell, Charlie, Rachel, Lena, Nola and Jane.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.
