Vera was born in October 1935. Vera's father was Joseph (The Ace) William Castoral and her mother was Vera Beyer (Castoral). Her paternal grandparents were Vaclav Castoral and Marie Belej (Castoral); her maternal grandparents were Orville Juet Beyer and Helen Spoonauer (Beyer). She had seven brothers and six sisters, named Sonny, Frank, Bobby, Jerry, Walter, Smokey, Kenny, Joan, Peggy, Carole, Helen, Kathy and Denise. She is the oldest of the fourteen children.
