DR. GILDERSLEEVE, PATHOLOGIST, DIES
Flags on U. Of P. Buildings at Half Mast in Honor of Professor's Memory.
Flags on the University of Pennsylvania buildings were at half-mast yesterday as a mark of respect to the memory of Dr. Nathaniel Gildersleeve, who died on Tuesday in the University Hospital. Dr. Gildersleeve, who was professor of microbiology and bacterio-pathology in the School of Dentistry of the University had been ill six or seven months. He is survived by his wife, four children, his mother, a brother and a sister. The family home is at Roselawn, 134 Hilldale Road, Lansdowne.
He was born in Cochecton Centre, Sullivan County, N.Y., October 2, 1871 and was graduated from the Medical School, University of Pennsylvania, in 1890. In 1900 and 1901 Dr. Gildersleeve held the Thomas A. Scott fellowship in hygiene. From 1901 until 1914, when he was made professor, he was an associate in pathology in the Dental School.
Dr. Gildersleeve was the author of numerous papers on bacteriological, pathological and hygienic subjects. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa, Alpha Kappa Kappa and Sigma Xi fraternities, the American Medical Association, Philadelphia County Medical Society, College of Physicians, Pathological Society of Philadelphia, the American Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis and the Masonic Fraternity.
