He died due to Perforated Gastric Ulcer and Pneumonia at the age of 45 on November 28th, 1929 in Manhattan, NYC, NY. His burial was on November 30th, 1929 in Bronxville Cemetery.⁸⁹

- Death Certificate: William J. Stewart, 45, (no date of birth given), single, office worker, died in Broad St. Hospital, Manhattan of a Perforated Gastric Ulcer and Pneumonia on Nov 28, 1929. He was born in Ireland and his parents were James Stewart and Jane Stewart born in Ireland. His brother okayed his burial by John Graham & Son, Inc. at Bronxville Cemetery, 4221 Park Ave. An autopsy was necessary to determine cause of death after 2 days in the hospital.
