William James Canning "Willie" Stewart

William James was born on June 10th, 1897 in Upperlands, Maghera Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland and his baptism took place on June 5th, 1898 in Maghera Church of Ireland.¹² William James' father was James Mayberry Stewart and his mother was Rachel Canning. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Stewart and Jane Carmichael. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Anne, Martha and Rachel. He was the oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 63 in March 1961. The funeral was arranged by Maghera Church of Ireland. His burial was on March 6th, 1961.³

General Notes
- 1901 Census- he is living with parents in Henry Wright's household in Upperlands- age 3. He is Wright's grand nephew. His name is listed as Wm. J. C. Stewart. He probably was given the name Canning.
  
  His marriage record in 1928 says he is a farmer in Gortade and his father is James Stewart, farmer
  
  He had moved to Drumard by the time Hill was born.
