  • Death Cert gives her parents as Samuel STewart and Martha McCool.  She emigrated 49 years prior and had lived in NYC for 46 of those years.

• General Notes
  • Emigration: 1870 according to 1910 Census.   According to her death cert she lived her first 3 years in US somewhere other than NYC.  I believe she may have been in Philadelphia living next door to James Stewart in the 1870 Census.  James emig in 1865 from Quebec and it is possible, his 1st cousin, Sarah Jane Stewart, did likewise at about the same time.  (This is NOT the Sarah Jane Stewart he later married)
    
    1870 Census: Sarah Jane Stewart, 20, is living with the John Laughlin family in Philly. From further research John Laughlin is the owner and supt. of the several steamship lines including the Clyde SS for which gr gr James Stewart clerked for 3 years.  He was also born in Tamlaght O'Crilly in March 1828 according to his biography in the Hibernian Society history book.  His father was Samuel Laughlin who died in 1860 in Drumnacanon, Tamlaght O'Crilly.
    
    1880 Census: age 39, living as a servent in Manhattan with the Scott family., single, born in Ireland, M & P born in Ireland.
    
    1900 Census: age 50, living with sister and brother in law, Annie Maud Stewart and John Turbitt in Manhattan
    
    1910 Census: age 63- emig 1870, living with sister Annie Maud Turbitt and her husband John Turbitt, Manhattan.
    
    1920 Census: age 76- emig 1870, sister in law- with Turbitts
