Robert was born on December 8th, 1857 in Philadelphia, PA and his baptism. Robert's father was John Stewart and his mother was Martha Lowry.  His paternal grandparents were John Stewart and Sarah Craig; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Lowry and Sarah Stevenson.  He had a brother and six sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named John, Sally, Martha, Infant, Margaret, Elizabeth, Lillian "Lillie" and ????.  He was the third oldest of the nine known children.  He died at the age of 57 on October 24th, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA.  His burial was on November 9th, 1915 in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Philadelphia.1
