Margaret was born in 1863 in Killymuck Glebe, Tamlaght O'Crilly Parish, Co. Londonderry, Ireland.  Margaret's father was John Stewart and her mother was Sarah Jane McCauley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Stewart and Maria Young; her maternal grandparents were Henry McCauley and Anne? Vance.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, William, Anne, Martha, Elizabeth and Sarah.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.
