Hugh was born on September 28th, 1868 in Lismoyle, Tamlaght O'Crilly Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.1   Hugh's father was Robert Stewart and his mother was Jane Gilmore.  His paternal grandparents were John Stewart and Sarah "Sally" Boyd.  He had two brothers and five sisters, named John, Robert, Sarah, Elizabeth, Margaret, Martha and Nancy.  He was the sixth oldest of the eight known children.
