James was born on June 14th, 1880 in Killymuck Glebe, Tamlaght O'Crilly Parish, Co. Londonderry, Ireland and his baptism took place on September 6th, 1880 in Churchtown Presbyterian Church, Tamlaght O'Crilly Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.1   James' father was Alexander Stevens and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Stewart.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas "Isles of Lismoyle" Stewart and Mary Anne Gilmore.  He had three brothers and a sister, named Spencer, Robert, John and Rose.  He was the third oldest of the five known children.  He died at the age of 91 in March 1972.
