John McCaughrin

John was born about 1819 in Gorton Coolhill, Aghadowey Parish, Co. Londonderry, Ireland.¹ John's father was Andrew McCaughrin and his mother was Nancy Stewart. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Stewart and Unknown Irwin. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Daniel, James, Andrew, Samuel, Martha and Mary. He was the sixth oldest of the eight children. He died on January 18th, 1875 in East Chester, South Carolina.

Death Notes
- On the tombstone of John and Huldah Crosby McCaughrin is the following inscription: "Huldah wife of John McCaughrin died age 38 years--October 20, 1874" and "John McCaughrin born in Co. Derry, Ireland, died January 18, 1875 age 65 years"----Rhoda Stewart Culpeper Chart on the McCaughrin Family

- He lived in Chester, S.C., last of his years. It was with him that Nancy Stewart lived when she came from Ireland.

  According to the Lindsay Family Tree sent to me by Michelle Wells Joseph Lindsey was born at his uncle, John McCaughrin's home in Chester in 1862. Nancy Stewart was married in John McCaughrin's home.
