Andrew was born about 1823 in Gorton Coolhill, Aghadowey Parish, Co. Londonderry, Ireland.  Andrew's father was Andrew McCaughrin and his mother was Nancy Stewart.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Stewart and Jane? Irwin.  He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Daniel, John, James, Samuel, Mary and Martha.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died about 1861 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire,Scotland.
