Mary  was born about 1827 in Lismoyle, Tamlaght O'Crilly Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.  Mary 's father was Robert McAleese and her mother was Mary Stewart.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Stewart, Daniel, Margaret, Jane, Martha and Elizabeth.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
