Elizabeth was born about 1834 in Lismoyle, Tamlaght O'Crilly Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.  Elizabeth's father was Robert McAleese and her mother was Mary Stewart.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Stewart, Daniel, Margaret, Jane, Martha and Mary .  She was the youngest of the seven children.
