Robert Lusk

Robert was born in 1765 in Scotland. He died at the age of 63 on January 18th, 1828 in Tamlaght, Aghadowey Pa., Co. Londonderry, Ireland.¹

General Notes
- The Lusks were gentry and the McCaughrins were planters. The social lines were so firmly drawn that the Lusks felt better than the McCaughrins.-----Martha McCaughrin/c.1900
  
  "(Robert Lusk) came from Scotland to Ireland, when he was about 12 years old, on the death of his parents. He lived with relatives and in time married and reared a family of seven daughters and three sons. He had 5 farms, stocked well, a good two story stone house , and kept hired men and hired women. He was also an architect of great skill and designe a noted Catholic Cathedral, which was visited by strangers and tourists. He died about the age of 62. He was a man of fine looks, had remarkable sense and judgment. He was the advisor of all that country. He was also owner of a fine estate."----Martha McCaughrin/c. 1900

  Places of Roman Catholic Worship in Maghera Parish, Co. Londonderry - Mass was originally celebrated in the old church at Maghera. The first mass house after the old church was in a cabin in Bracknagrilly. the second was also in a cabin in Fallowlea, parish of Killelagh, and was built in 1782. At that time part of the 2 parishes were united and still continues. The third was on the site of the second and the present chapel is the fourth, architect Mr. Robert Luske. -----1830 OS Memoirs of Maghera Parish
