William John was born on September 3rd, 1870 in St. Johnston, Taughboyne Pa., Co. Donegal.1   William John's father was Gawn Lowry and his mother was Fanny Edwards.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew (St. Johnston) Lowry and <Unknown>.  He had a brother and four sisters, named David, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Anne and Eliza Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.  He had two half-brothers named Andrew and William.
