Thomas was born in 1845 in Drumfad, Taughboyne Pa., Co. Donegal, Ireland and his baptism took place on March 12th, 1845 in 1st Raphoe Presbyterian Church.  Thomas' father was John (Drumfad) Lowry and his mother was Jane Logan.  He had three brothers and a sister, named Robert, Andrew, James and Isabella.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.
