  • DoB Souce: Sarah of Philly gives age as 23 in 1860 census = DoB of
    1837.
    Sarah Hayes' age is given as 69 on her gravestone in St Eunan's
    Cathedral and she died in 1903 = DoB of 1834.  In fact, her death entry in the GRO, Dublin shows she died in 1904, and it gives her age as 68 - DoB of1835/6.
    Given as 68 at death in her death notice in the Derry Standard in 1904 - 1836 DoB.
    The 1901 Census gives Sarah Hayes age as 60 = DoB of 1841.
    This means Sarah Hayes' various DoBs now encompass the supposed DoB of Sarah in Philly, thus making it more likely they are one and the same person.
    If Margaret Lowry was born in August 1835 as she claimed then Sarah is more likely to have been born in late 1836 or early 1837.

    I have combined the facts of the two Sarahs in this tree.
    
    Sarah Lowry - A Study to determine if she is the sister living with Martha Lowry Stewart in 1860 Census in Philadelphia [June 1, 1860]who then returned to Ireland and married Thomas Hayes in 1863 and, if not, 1) who is the one in Raphoe and 2) who is Alexander Lowry who is her father.

    Death:  January 20, 1904, Raphoe, Sarah Hayes, Female, Married, 68 years, Merchant's wife, Debility 2 years cardiac failure 3 days certified, John Hayes, son, PAD,Raphoe. (Death Cert #488- Dublin)
    
    Parents:  Father, Alexander Lowry (1789- Sept. 25, 1873), labourer, according to her marriage record.  He may have been living in Tullyrap at the time of her marriage.  He cannot be Alexander Hamilton Lowry who married in 1853 and was living in Tullyrap off and on.  If my Sarah Lowry her mother was Sarah Stevenson who died before this Alexander Lowry as he is recorded as a widower. If my Alexander Lowry is not her father then who is this Alexander Lowry?  In 1857 the only Alexander Lowry we know of  living in Tullyrap was supposedly Alexander H. Lowry.
    
    Brother:  According to the Calendar of Wills, 1896, an Andrew Lowry (died 25 March 1894) of Cooladerry, Raphoe Pa. was brother to Sarah Lowry Hayes of Raphoe.
    1894 -Andrew Lowry, 38,  April ??, of Cooladerry, Co. Donegal, labourer, died 25 March 1894, letters of application to Sarah Hayes of Raphoe, married woman and sister of Andrew, £26/5/6. ---Probate Office, Derry
    "She applied for letters of administration which means she was the one who applied to have his affairs wound up.  The money could have gone to anyone then in a predetermined hierarchy, including Sarah."-Boyd Gray

    Married:  Thomas Hayes, 9 June 1863 (Civil Reg: LDS# 010448, page 230) Taughboyne Parish Church by James A. Parke. Daughter of Alexander Lowry, labourer. She was full age, a spinster, residing in Tullyrap at the time of the marriage.  He was the son of James Hayes, farmer, Raphoe. Thomas Hayes was a steward and was a widower of full age. It was witnessed by James Lowry and James Buchanan - prof witnesses it appears at TPC.  Although she was living in T:rap at the time of her marriage she does not appear to have any connection with the Lowrys there who were documented in St. Eunans Cath.  She was married at Taughboyne Parish Church.
    
    Death:  #488. 20 Jan. 1904, Raphoe, Sarah Hayes, Female, married, 68 years, Merchant's wife, Debility 2 years cardiac failure 3 days - certified.  John Hayes, son, PAD Raphoe.
    
    Death Notice:  Sarah Hayes, age 68, at Raphoe, beloved wife of Thomas Hayes.  Interment in Raphoe Cathedral.
    
    Burial: St Eunan's Cathedral, Raphoe - Gravestone Inscription- "In loving memory of Sarah Lowry, wife of Thomas Hayes who died 1903 aged 69 yrs. Also her husband Thomas Hayes died 1912 aged 85  yrs, and their two children Sarah and Alexander who died in  infancy. John Hayes died 27 December 1952 aged 85 yrs."
