Samuel was born in 1866. Samuel's father was John Hamilton Lowry and his mother was Jane Matthew. His paternal grandparents were John Lowry and Elizabeth Hamilton. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named John, Henry, Arthur, Albert, Frederick, Fanny, Mary, Adelaide, Annie, Minnie, Eliza and Charlotte. He was the nineth oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 77 on August 1st, 1943.¹
