Samuel was born in 1839 in Ballyholey.  Samuel's father was Andrew (Ballyholey) Lowry and her mother was Matilda Chambers.  She had two brothers and four sisters, named Andrew , Joseph, Jane, Mary, Margaret and Martha.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
